Women's Labor Force Participation

According to an article from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the women's labor force participation rate has increased from 33.9 percent in 1950 to 59.8 percent in 1998. The increase was particularly noticeable in the 25-34 year age range, in which the labor force participation rate for women increased from 34 percent in 1950 to 76.3 percent in 1998. Also, the age range in which labor force participation took the highest value changed from 1950 to 1998, which may suggest a change in the type of labor being provided by women. In 1950 the age range with the highest rate for women was 16-24 years (more likely to be unskilled) while in 1998 the age range with the highest rate for women was 35-44 years (more likely to be highly skilled labor).
