Male/Female Unemployment Rate

In November, the unemployment rate for both men and women decreased. For men, it
decreased from 8.8% to 8.3%, while for women, there was a decrease from 8.0% to 7.8%.
The rate reduced for women because over 400,000 women left the labor force during this
time, and there were fewer women looking for work. The article points out that the larger
reduced rate for men isn’t because men are doing a better job than women, but because
the male-dominated sectors (such as manufacturing and construction) took the biggest hit
during the sustained job loss period. Now that more jobs and contracts are being made in
these industries, more men are being hired, thus the increased rate.
