Income inequality is a pressing issue because we see that wealthy people are getting wealthier while the poor people are getting poorer. This article proposes the idea that this growing inequality is not due to economic reasons, but to personal choices. These social processes have led to demographic changes within US households such as households with single parents. The gap is also widened by the concentration of wealth in certain areas and the rise of successful women. When two wealthy individuals get married, their wealth increases even more relative to those who are less wealthy.
