Boeing and Labor Union Dispute

This article talks about a dispute between Boeing and the machinist's union that builds their aircraft. Boeing has agreed to a new contract extension that would allow a union-represented plant build its new line of planes, but is looking for alternative labor sources outside the union for its other projects. This is found through outsourcing to foreign labor or domestic non-union labor, both of which would make the cost of labor considerably cheaper. But one could only ask which decision would create the severest ramifications? Using cheaper labor and helping Boeing as a whole? Or taking a majority of a specific labor force, those in the union, out of work and unemployed?
