Income inequality in America: The 99 percent | The Economist

Every time we turn on the news, we see the protests have been going on all over the States and we hear protesters voices chanting, “We are the 99%”. Yes we are the 99%, but what can we do to decrease the gap between the rich and poor? As a whole, we should support individual businesses rather than big corporations but is that a realistic approach? People want to be able to support their family with their monthly income instead of being short all the time or using credit cards that lead to more debt. The graph above shows the gap between the top 1% and the rest, based on after-tax income. As we can see, as time goes by, the gap between rich and poor gets larger and larger.
