Why Some Women are Burning Out at work by 30

In class, we saw that an increasing number of women are planning longer careers due to higher college and graduate education, and the advent of the birth control pill. However, this article from MSNBC suggests that women are more quickly burning out by the age of 30, as evidenced by the gender breakdown in CEOs and upper management. According to the research, these millennial women have built impressive resumes in their younger days, working themselves to the limit in order to increase their attractiveness to employers. Much of their energy has been expended in getting them to the places they are at today. Furthermore, according to survey data, women are less likely than men to take a break from their activities and care for themselves, contributing to the burnout. A final point made in the article is that these millennial women tend to be single and independent, suggesting that leaving the workforce through marriage is not a viable nor pressing option.
