"Africa Rising"

I read an article in the Economist called “Africa rising” which was written on December 3, 2011. The article talks about the recent trend of growth in Africa and mentions that six of the ten fastest growing countries in the last decade were from Africa. It describes how different industries in Africa are getting boosts such as from China in manufacturing and from their own enthusiasm in the technology sector. The article even mentions that in Africa, “A bulge of better-educated young people of working age is entering the job market.” This reminded me of the topics from class about the effect of investments in education and demand for skilled workers.

The article continues by mentioning that although there are many signs of growth in Africa, there are still many more steps that need to be taken. For example, the author suggests that governments in Africa need to “make it easier to start businesses and cut some taxes.”
