Is Income Inequality a Problem in the U.S.?

As lectured in class, income inequality in America is currently a hot topic of discussion, and according to the most recent census data, we see the wealthiest Americans becoming wealthier with huge increases in their income while the rest of Americans saw their income go down. According to an interview, Tyler Cowen, as economist at George Mason University comments on the dilemma, "It is a problem, but I don't frame it in terms of inequality. I think mobility is the problem. The problem is not that someone has more, but that someone is not moving up the ladder." Cowen believes the key to solving the issue of mobility is to fix education. I agree with Cowen because I believe in order to be competitive in today's economy people must first invest in themselves, which is only possible through higher education.
