Economic Insecurities amongst Americans

According to Jacob Hacker, a political science professor at Yale and author of the "Economic Security Index", the Great Recession has resulted in more than 1 in 5 Americans who have economic insecurities. Hackers research has shown that more than 20% of Americans (particularly middle class Americans) lost at least a 1/4th of their household incomes during each year of the Great Recession. As stated in Tami Luhby's article titled, "More than 1 in 5 Americans are Economically Insecure," the three factors that Hacker took into account in order to measure insecurity include, "major income loss, out-of-pocket medical expenses, and the lack of savings." In his studies, Hacker also noticed that not everyone faces insecurities equally. For example, those who are between the age of 18 and 34 are more likely to be economically insecure.
