Unemployment fell 4 percent in November to 8.6 percent, the lowest level since March 2009. While 120,000 jobs were created, the rate also fell because 300,000 gave up looking for work; thus not all 4 percent is due to job creation. More than half the jobs were for retailers, restaurants, and bars, which are relatively low skill, low education level positions. Some manufacturing jobs are also being created, suggesting that the comparative advantage found in other countries in manufacturing over the past few years may be declining.
